Clayton, North Carolina – Officials say a woman was killed by a machine at a bread maker in Clayton.
A 22-year-old Hispanic woman was crushed to death while working on a large industrial machine at Northeast Foods.
Northeast Foods is a supplier of bread rolls and baked goods to fast food restaurants.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m., after which all employees were sent home.
Donna Eason, the company’s human resources manager, told WRAL News they were a close-knit family and everyone knew the 22-year-old.
“It’s just a freak accident, there’s nothing else to say about it and our hearts are just broken, they’re really broken,” Eason said.
Eason said she was like a girl.
“She was such a sweet little girl,” Eason said. “Just so nice and sweet and had a warm smile.”
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified of the incident.
It is unclear at this time what happened, but police say it was unintentional.
Eason says it’s a loss that many are grappling with both inside and outside the company.
“Just know this is a company owned business, our people are our first priority,” Eason said. “We will do what is necessary for the family and for the community as well.”
Eason said they will most likely be closed until OSHA investigates.
